Writing A Letter To Your Best Friend Who Is Getting Married

So you’re writing a letter to your best friend who’s getting married- congratulations! As I’m sure you know, he/she is taking a big step in life and changing their relationship with the person they love (hopefully for forever). As part of the wedding party, you are having to write one of those letters that can be hard to get right. Take a look at the below samples that will make your writing easier.
Writing A Letter To Your Best Friend Who Is Getting Married
Dear [best friend’s name],
I’m so excited that you’re getting married. I remember when we first met, and I know that your husband-to-be is a lucky guy. You’ve always been there for me through thick and thin, and I can’t think of anyone else who would have made a better partner for me.
We’ve had some good times together over the years, but I also know that some of the best times are still ahead of us. I can’t wait to see what life has in store for both of us!
Dear [friend’s name],
I can’t believe you’re getting married! I still remember when we first met—it was at that crazy party in college and we were both wasted out of our minds. You don’t even remember any of it, do you? But I do! And I’ll never forget it.
You’ve been through a lot since then… but so have I, and somehow your friendship has gotten me through some of the hardest times in my life. So now that you’re getting married and starting this new chapter of your life, I want to tell you how much your friendship means to me.
I’m not just saying that because it’s what people say on these types of letters—I mean it from the bottom of my heart. You’ve always been there for me whenever I needed someone to talk to or vent about something or just laugh with about some dumb thing that happened at work or school… You know exactly what to say and when to say it (and sometimes when NOT TO SAY ANYTHING AT ALL). And even though we haven’t seen each other in a while, or even talked on the phone as much as we used to…
Dear [Best Friend’s Name],
I hope you’re having a great time on your honeymoon! I just wanted to write and tell you how happy I am for you and [Husband’s Name]. You two deserve every happiness in the world, and I am so glad that we’ve been able to share this time with each other.
I’m also thinking back on our friendship, which has been such a joy to me over the years. There are so many things I would like to tell you, but one stands out above all others: it’s okay if we don’t always see eye-to-eye on everything. The point is that we still have each other’s back, no matter what happens.
And if there’s one thing that I can say without hesitation—one thing that will always be true—it is that we are forever friends.
Dear [friend’s name],
I know you’re getting married, which is the best news ever. I’m so excited for you and [groom’s name], and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the two of you.
I’ve wanted to write this letter for a long time, but I’ve been afraid that if I do it now, it might make me cry. So here goes: I am so grateful for our friendship—the way you’ve always been there for me no matter what, and how we never run out of things to talk about or laugh at together. We’ve been through so much together, and yet here we are right now, still laughing and loving each other. It’s just as amazing as it was when we were kids!
I know that marriage is going to change things between us—but only in small ways! You’ll get a new last name, but your personality will stay exactly the same (and that’s something everyone should be thankful for). You’ll have different priorities than before—but those priorities will always include your friends. Nothing will change about that. And most importantly: nothing will change about how much fun we have together!
You’re getting married! How awesome is that?
Dear Friend,
I can’t believe you’re getting married! I’m so excited for you, and I just have to tell you that.
You are one of my favorite people on this planet, and I just want to make sure that I tell you how much you mean to me. You’ve been there for me through thick and thin, and I know that we’ll be friends forever.
I’m so glad to see you find someone who makes you happy like [name]. When did this happen? How did I miss it? Well, regardless—you deserve it! And now that we’re both engaged (well, almost), congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!
I hope your day is perfect. It will be if there’s a lot of dancing involved. Seriously though—you two are made for each other, and I couldn’t be happier for you two as a couple or individually.
Dear [friend’s name],
I’ve known you since we were kids, and I can’t think of anyone else who would be able to make me laugh like you do. You’re also the person I turn to when I need advice or just a shoulder to cry on. And now that you’re getting married, it means more than ever that you’ll always be there for me—even when I’m not sure I want to admit that I need help.
Marriage is something that takes a lot of work, but it also gives you so many opportunities for growth and personal development outside of yourself. It’s going to be amazing watching you grow together with your partner as a team, and it’s going to be exciting seeing how much each of your lives change because of this union. You two are perfect together!
I hope that this letter finds its way into your hands before the big day (and if not, then soon after). If there was one thing I could tell you about marriage, though, it would be this: don’t let go of each other’s hands!
Dear [name],
I know that it’s hard to believe, but this is it. You’re getting married.
You’ve been my best friend since we were kids, and I can’t imagine my life without you. I’m so excited for you, but also really sad that this is the last time that we’ll be able to hang out like we used to—just the two of us, without anyone else around.
And let me tell you something: I’d marry you in a heartbeat if it meant we could get married in a double wedding with these guys (hint).
Dear [name],
I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to your wedding. I know you wanted me there, but it just wasn’t possible this time around. You know how busy I am with work and stuff, and I just couldn’t get away. But I’m so happy for you guys! You’ve been together since high school—how awesome is that? And now you’re going to be married! That’s pretty cool.
I want you to know that I’m thinking about you guys all the time and hoping that your marriage is everything you want it to be, and more. I know how much effort went into planning this event… from finding the perfect venue to picking out the perfect dress (I bet it was gorgeous), writing vows, finding a photographer… seriously, there are so many details that go into planning a wedding! And now that the big day has come, it’s finally time for all those plans to come together and make something really incredible happen. It must feel amazing right now!
Anyway, don’t worry about me being too busy or whatever—I have plenty of time for friends like you! If anything comes up again where we can’t hang out in person but still need some quality time together…
Dear [name],
I can’t believe it, but you’re getting married! I remember when we were kids and we used to pretend that we were already married. We’d get so caught up in our make-believe world that we’d forget to eat lunch or brush our teeth. But now here we are, and you’re actually getting married. It’s insane!
When I think back on all the years we’ve been friends, the first thing that comes to mind is how much fun we had together. Remember when you were too scared to jump off the diving board at camp and I pushed you off? And then I made sure to tell everyone what happened so they wouldn’t think it was your own idea? That was so funny! Oh, wait—that actually wasn’t funny at all. Sorry about that one. But there are so many other memories from our friendship that I’ll never forget: like the time we painted each other’s nails with permanent markers; or when we dressed up as superheroes and pretended to be saving the world from an evil villain named Mr. Freeze (you know who that guy is); or even just hanging out in your backyard and eating snacks together…
Dear [name],
I just wanted to let you know that I’m thinking of you on your wedding day, and I want you to know how much I love and support you.
I remember when we first met, back in middle school. You were such a quiet kid, but after we became friends, it was like the floodgates opened! You were so funny and kind and creative—and still are! And now look at you: getting married! It’s incredible.
Growing up together has been the best part of my life. I’m so proud of who you’ve become, and so happy that we will always be able to count on each other no matter what happens next.
I wish you all the best today as you begin this new chapter in your life with [husband’s name].
Hey, [friend’s name]!
I know you’re probably busy with wedding planning and everything, but I just wanted to say congratulations on your upcoming marriage to [spouse-to-be’s name]. You guys are so perfect for each other. I can’t wait to see the two of you get married!
I know things have been kind of tough lately, but I’m sure that getting married will change everything for the better. We all miss you a lot, but we’re all really happy for you—and we can’t wait to celebrate with you on your big day!
Dear [friend’s name],
I just wanted to take a moment to write you and tell you how happy I am for you and your fiancé. I know that this is all happening so fast, but I can’t help but think back to when we first met freshman year of high school, and how much we’ve changed since then.
You have always been such an amazing person—so warm and caring, with a smile that lights up the room. You are truly one of my best friends, and I’m so glad that our paths have crossed.
I wish you all the best in your marriage! And please let me know if there’s anything I can do as your Maid of Honor—I would love to help make your wedding day even more special!
Love always, [your name].
Dear [best friend’s name],
Congratulations on your engagement! I am so happy for you and [fiancé’s name]. I can’t wait to see the wedding. The two of you make such a great couple.
I would love to be there to celebrate with you, but unfortunately my busy work schedule makes it impossible for me to travel at this time. It looks like we’ll have to make do with sending each other cards and gifts instead of being able to celebrate together in person.
In case you didn’t know, I’m going through some pretty tough times right now—my ex-boyfriend [ex-boyfriend’s name] is engaged as well, and he just invited me to his wedding too! So between that and work, I’m just not sure if I can get away right now. But if anything changes and it looks like I’ll be able to make it after all, let me know! I’d love nothing more than another excuse to see both of you again.
Congratulations again on your engagement!
